Municipal Offenses

Below the level of Indictable Offenses in New Jersey are crimes that are normally handled in municipal courts throughout the State.  These can be Disorderly Persons Offenses, Petty Disorderly Persons Offenses, violations of Municipal Ordinances and, in certain circumstances, Fourth Degree Indictable Offenses. The offense of Driving While Intoxicated (DWI), a motor vehicle code violation in New Jersey with severe consequences, is also heard in Municipal Court.

Many attorneys make an industry out of handling these types of cases only because they can quickly dispense with them; charging small fees and delivering minimal effort.  The Bahuriak Law Group handles these minor offenses the same way it treats major crimes: through being prepared, knowing the law and a forward leaning mentality that aggressively asserts your rights.

Just because the punishment is less severe, often consisting of fines and the possibility of short jail sentences, does not mean that these types of charges should be taken less seriously.  These offenses still carry the stigma of conviction and can cause lasting damage to your reputation.  For younger offenders, a conviction for what seems to be a minor offense could hinder college applications or entry into the Armed Forces.
